A while ago we did a post about weird creatures you wish were Photoshopped. While those images showed frightening animals which appear to be put on this earth just to make sure we keep looking under our bed after we outgrow our fear of the Boogeyman, these amazing animal pictures are pretty much the opposite. They all look absolutely beautiful and in most cases you’d be hard-pressed to believe these photos didn’t spawn from the digital miracle factory called Photoshop. We are talking about amazing animal pictures such as:
This bizarre looking Goblin Shark is the only living representative of the family Mitsukurinidae, a lineage that goes back 125 million years. Goblin sharks usually stay at depths below 100 meters, which is the only reason mankind hasn’t declared war on them yet. Goblin sharks are hideous, pink, 11-foot long servants of evil, which according to Wikipedia, have an electrosensitive, trowel-shaped, beak-like rostrum and protrusible jaws. That is science-talk for: “Oh God, God no.”
Regal Ring Necked Snake——————————————————————
The regal ringneck snake is typically gray in color, with a dark-speckled white or cream underside, which becomes bright red or orange near and under the tail. It is distinguished by a yellow to orange ring around its neck which is typically bordered with black. They are among the larger of the ringneck snake subspecies, growing from 8 to 34 inches (20 to 87 cm) long. If threatened, the ringneck snake typically hides its head by twisting its tail, exposing its brightly colored underside, and produces a foul smell.
Goliath Frog aka Toadzilla——————————————————————
Most frogs can fit in the palm of your hand, or even on the tip of your finger. But the Goliath frog, the world’s largest frog, may grow up to 3 feet long when it is stretched out and can weigh as much as a newborn baby, about 7 lbs (3.2 kg)! The goliath frog is normally found in and near fast-flowing rivers in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. They feed mostly on insects but smaller frogs or snakes best be on the lookout for this behemoth as they are also known to end up on its menu.
The Giant Angora Rabbit——————————————————————
What seems to be Cotton candy with a rabbit mouth pasted in with Photoshop, is in fact a Giant Angora Rabbit. This variety of domestic rabbit is bred for its long, soft wool and we assume: Afro- and Clown wigs.
Wendy the Muscle Whippet——————————————————————
This cartoonishly muscled-dog is a whippet named Wendy. She has a genetic disorder causing ridiculous muscular growth, making her basically the incredible Hulk among dogs. Even though she is a healthy and very friendly dog, we still think she would make for a fantastic villain if they ever made a new Air Bud movie!
The Giant Gray Rabbit——————————————————————
When I first laid eyes on this amazing animal picture I was not sure if this is the cutest or the most horrifying thing I’ve ever seen, until I learned the back-story. First horrifying detail: it’s real and the man is of average height, not Hobbit size. Second, is that this species of giant gray bunnies are bred by a guy in Germany for food.
This particular caterpillar was found at Posada Amazonas lodge in Tambopata, Peru, and it’s almost a fully grown caterpillar belonging to the family Megalopygidae, also collectively known as Flannel Moths.
Mary River Turtle——————————————————————
This punky looking reptile is an endangered Mary River Turtle, which was only formally identified in 1994. It hails from the Mary River which flows through the town of Maryborough in the south-east of the state of Queensland, Australia. The lurid green Mohawk is actually a type of algae, growing on the turtle’s skin.
Satanic Leaf-Tailed Gecko——————————————————————
This incredibly rare species, the Satanic Leaf-tailed Gecko was observed on a Conservation International RAP survey in Mantadia-Zahamena corridor of Madagascar in 1998.
The Calf with the 60 inch Tail——————————————————————
This calf, which was born on a farm in Virginia USA, has a tail of a whopping 60 inch in length! Calves tails are usually between 5 and 8 inches long, making this a bizarre World record!
The Zebroid is actually a cross between a horse and a Zebra, so why isn’t it named Hobra? We don’t have the faintest clue, but Zebroid does have a nice ring to it.
The Polish Frizzle – Bantam Bearded Blue Hen——————————————————————
Dressed in their lacy and sophisticated feathers, these amazing chickens are dressed as fashion plates, not dinner plates.
The Owl Cat——————————————————————
Ok, so this isn’t an actual species. It’s just a cat with a bad case of identity crisis.
Owl in Flight——————————————————————
Amazing animal picture of an Owl caught in mid-flight! Not much else to add to that, except that this photographer is now officially my hero!
Brutus the 20ft Saltwater Crocodile——————————————————————
This giant 80 year-old crocodile, which lives on the Adelaide River in Australia, can be lured out of the water by dangling kangaroo meat from a pole. Obviously, that makes for some seriously cool holiday pictures! Brutus is not invincible though, as you can see he is missing his right arm…
The Maned Wolf aka Sexy Legs——————————————————————
Believe it or not but those legs are not stretched out in Photoshop. The maned wolf is one of the most distinctive canids in the world. Although it is not a true wolf, it has an evolutionary history dating back six million years, to a time when many large canids became extinct in south America. It is not closely related to any other canid alive today, being the sole member of the genus Chrysocyon.
Migration Of Red Crabs – Christmas Island, Australia——————————————————————
The island is particularly known for the red crabs, a species of land crab, which migrate from the forest to the coast each year during the breeding season. As you can see this can create some serious traffic jams!
The Smiling Shark——————————————————————
While most sharks look terrifying by definition, this one actually looks very friendly as he seems to be smiling at the camera. Ok, time to get something a bit more disturbing on this list before you doze off…
Extreme Close Up of a Maggot——————————————————————
If you think Maggots look gross by default, then try looking at one through a microscope! Before you ask… I really don’t know why nature decided to give them these goofy looking eyes and novelty wax vampire teeth.
Burmese Peacock Softshell turtle aka The Turtle That Pees Through it’s Mouth——————————————————————
Nature has played a very cruel prank on these Burmese Peacock Softshell turtles by making them the only life-form on the planet that pees through its mouth!——————————————————————
I hope you enjoyed these amazing animal pictures and remember that you can contribute to this list by uploading you own pictures in the comment section below. Also if you’d like to see more freaky animals, then also be sure to check out:
