Even though some of our younger viewers probably won’t even recognize this relic of the music industry, the cassette tape still holds enough nostalgia for a lot of people. There was a time when the iconic Sony Cassette Walkman was the equivalent of the iPod and people played video games by rewinding tapes for 20 minutes to start a level.
This mixtape coffee table was handcrafted by Jeff Skierka, a Seattle based Woodworker with a fairly large garage and a head full of ideas. The Mixtape table is a 12:1 scale replica of the real (or should we say ‘reel’) thing. The original prototype pictured here has been in the works for over five years and is made from reclaimed maple and walnut wood with a plexiglass top. So they stay relatively affordable, future versions of the table will be machined out of high-grade plywood with a glass top for added durability. But if you fancy yourself a master woodworker, the Mixtape table is just begging to be copied.
