These amazing images were created by Seatle based illustrator- Dain Fagerholm. The 3D illusion is created by an effect called “Stereoscopy“. This technique has actually been around for hundreds of years, but instead of realistic photos, the artist uses his hand drawn mystical creatures to create a for more impressive three-dimensional result.
So how does this 3D illusion work you ask? Most stereo pictures consist of two offset images separately to the left and right eye of the viewer. These images are then combined in the brain to give the perception of 3D depth. Since there are only two frames- it also creates the “jerky” effect. However the result is a wonderful optical illusion of a 3D image and you won’t even need special glasses to view them! Be sure to check out Dain’s other pictures as well, inside the post.
